Run Older Programs on Windows XP

If you have an older program which is crashing under Windows XP, but worked well under a previous version of Windows, try changing the compatibility properties for the program:

  1. Right-click the program icon on your desktop or the shortcut on the START menu for the program you want to run, and then click PROPERTIES.
  2. Click the COMPATIBILITY TAB, and change the compatibility settings for your program.

Note: If the program still does not run correctly, check with the manufacturer for program updates or patches. For games that use Microsoft DirectX®, make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft DirectX, as well as current video and sound card drivers.
